The Pac-10 (soon to be Pac-12) has always played in the shadow of the Big Ten, Big 12 and SEC. What better way to step out of that shadow than to play on a different day?
If the NFL does indeed take a year off because of labor strife, the Pac-12 would consider moving conference games to Sunday, lunette oakley radar, according to a report by Tom Dienhart of Rivals.com.
“We certainly are monitoring the situation,” Pac-12 Commissioner Larry Scott told Dienhart. “We have no plans in place at this time, but you want to be prepared and consider all options. Still, these labor situations have a way of getting done the closer they get to a critical situation.”
Imagine the exposure. A day formerly jam-packed with NFL games suddenly featuring just Pac-12 football.
Right now it’s just an idea, but conference officials seem at least willing to listen.
“We haven’t had anybody approach us with that,” Arizona athletic director Greg Byrne said. “Thursday night football hasn’t been around forever, and we adjusted to that. Sunday is a day a lot of people look to watch football. You would get good exposure.
“But Sunday games would be something we would have to think long and hard about before we jumped into.”
Dienhart makes the point that the networks have a lot of options if there is no NFL football on Sundays and there is no guarantee that the Pac-12 would be the first choice.
Read Dienhart’s entire story, including what the networks’ other programming options are and the potential difficulties of moving college football games to Sundays.
