Ripon Bahl Loopback Adapter I have a Compaq DL580 Generation 3 with a loopback adapter installed, this server has a BroadCom 1 gig network adapter. This server works fine, here is the trouble. I have a DL580 Generation 1 and when I set up a loopback adapter and reboot the server to takes 15 to 20 min. to logon on for the domain. I have changed the binding order and also added a BroadCom 1 gig nic to this machine with no luck. Compaq said it is OS issue. Called Microsoft and have tried what they suggested with the binding order and different nic, they are leaning toward hardware issue.
Has anyone else seen this. One more thing the loopback worked at one time then it started the slow logon, so I rebuilt the machine. Loopback Adapter And Dhcp I am running Windows 2003 SBS Questions:

Office 2007 Professional Plus Key, I did alot of searching and couldn't find the answer to this
question. I need to add a few virtual NICs to workstations. In my test
I added 2 Microsoft Loopback Adapters. Each adapter was set with a
Static IP Address. On the Workstation I can ping any of the Loopback adapters and it
works fine. The problem is the IP Addresses of the Loopback adapters
are not visiable from outside the workstation. When I try to ping the
Loopback addresses from another workstation, it doesn't work. Pinging

I've been trying to figure out why we have routing problems with a loopback adapter that has a vip for load balancing iis. The box in question has two nics, one to internet and another for the backbone in conjunction with the loopback adapter which goes on the backbone (we have to balance on the backbone too). So, as a workaround to getting the route table figured out, we try to do a devcon disable *Loop on shutdown script. I can run this all day from a command prompt, but whenever we runs in while in the shutdown script, it doesn't work. netsh also works fine. But again when run from a shutdown script it returns "Loopback" not found. Also, I notice that when I disable the loopback, set it to dhcp and then do a route print the persistent route of 10.0.0.0 disappears. When I re-enable the loopback, set the ip to it, re-add the 10.0.0.0 route, everything starts working again. Microsoft Loopback Adapter And Iis Issue I have installed and setup the Microsoft Loopback Network Adapter and setup IIS to use the IP for a web site. Everything works fine accessing the web external to your machine, but if I try to access the web local to the machine on the IP address that is on the loopback adapter I cannot connect. Alvin Loopback Adapter For Standalone Iis On W2K Server Hi I'm trying to configure the loopback adapter on to run a standalone
IIS5 on W2K server. The adapter has installed OK, and I've given it an address of
192.168.250.1. But whenever I try to open a local sote at that address, I always get
'try again', 'work offline' dialog. I've tried adding an entry inside the hosts file, but still get the same
response. Does anyone know how to configure the adapter to avoid this (e.g. what
should the gateway be?) - I can't find anything online to troubleshoot

In order to load balance the servers we have installed the Microsoft Loopback adapter on each server, using a Virtual IP address, that our network load balancer uses to balance the traffic towards the two real IP addresses of the servers. This configuration works without issue until we attempt to enable the Windows Firewall. The firewall has been configured, using the security configuration wizard, to allow the relevant ports for HTTP(S) and other services running on the server. Direct connection for the server (i.e. not via the network load balancer virtual IP address, but using the real IP address) continues to work as expected. However, using the network load balancer virtual IP address, the browser fails to find the server. How can I get this configuration to work with the firewall enabled or is this not possible? IasNps Windows2008 Hello, in windows 2003 IAS has written information about connections into a logfile. This was done in realtime... so at the moment when IAS has authenticated a connection a record was written to the IAS-Logfile. It seems that Windows2008 IAS version (now in NPS) does not write connection information to a logfile in realtime but it it does cache it somehow and write it with some delay. We have written a monitoring software that scans the IAS logfile for changes in realtime... so we can see changes in connections in realtime. Now that Win2008 does not update the logfiles immediately our realtime-scanning software doesnt work anymore. Is there a change to force IAS2008/NPS to update the logfile without any delay - like it as with IAS2003 ? we got loopback failure Help With Loopback I am trying to run some internal test where I have a machine with two nic cards installed. One has the ip of 168.195.0.1 and the other has the ip of 168.195.0.2. I have each one connected to a separate hub with nothing else connected. Sort of a dead end. When I rum my test I am trying to get each ip to show that they are waiting on a connection instead they are using the loopback connection and connecting to each other. This isn't an installed instance of the MS loopback adapter but rather the default internal loopback interface at 127.0.0.1. The server in question is running windows 2003 server and the application that appears to be sending/receiving huge amounts of data on the loopback interface is IBM Websphere. My question is... Is there a way to view/modify the settings on the default loopback? I searched the registry for loopback, and 127.0.0.1 and didn't find any specific location that looked like it had any options/paramaters for that interface. Netdiag -v shows it as adapter 1 however it isn't listed anywhere. What I really want to do is set the speed up from 10MB on this interface if possible. I deployed a default domain policy concerning screen savers. I want to turn off this policy when users logon to our Citrix server. I changed the local policies on the citrix server. JYC Loopback Check For Iis5 ? I have been using a command line utility much like Unix getfile to get
some download times from IIS. I am using IIS5 PWS on Win2k Prof. When I
simultanously execute several downloads from IIS, while running on the
same machine (127.0.0.1 AND loopback adapter) I see the following
consistent behavior. The first 2 requests immediately begin
downloading. Other requests are frozen, without even response headers,
until the first 2 finish. Its as if they are queued by 2's. I have put into use the same tool to make requests from an IIS6 box, remotely
not via loopback, and do not see this behavior. Any number of
requests seem to download concurrently to my machine on an ISP assigned
PPP ip address. I have browse there was a 'loopback check' in Win2k3 SP1 that behaves
somewhat like this. Have I run into a security feature on IIS5? Do all
IIS5's limit downloads by means of the loopback to 2 at a time? What about

have moved the terminal server computers into their own ou and
configured a new gpo linked here with loopback processing enabled. I
also set the security to this gpo to allow a group of users/terminal
servers apply rights. The problem is that the users don't get the
policy when logging in towards the terminal server. I ran the group policy
result wizard and found that the loopback policy gpo is being denied
with error "access denied(security filtering). I've tried giving

I apply a policy to an OU with a computer in it, but the policy has user specific settings (logon script I only want to run on the computers in this OU). It appears I need to implement loopback processing before the user node will apply (I selected loopback replace instead of merge). For this scenario my questions are,
#1) What if the OU this user account is in also has a policy with a logon script, do they both run in a merge scenario?
#2) How about in a replace scenario?
#3) Am I correct in assuming that User Node settings in a policy that is applied to an OU with computers in it, that Loopback processing MUST be set? Next scenario. Several policies are applied to an OU with Computers in it. Each of these policies have User Node settings in them.
#1) Do I need to set loopback on each of the policies or just one of them?
#2) Will loopback "replace" in one policy impact the other policies applied to this same OU? Telnet + Ipv6 + Loopback We have a load balancer application which routes packets on the local subnet by changing the ethernet MAC header. It works well for ipv4 and all ipv6 machines except our 2003 telnet server. To configure machines to work with this load balancer, you add the external-cluster ip on the loopback on the machine so that it will receive the packet. We have added our ipv6 address to your MS loopback adapter via netsh and ipconfig /all shows the address on the loopback. We have stopped/restarted telnet as well as rebooted the machine. We run an ip trace tool on the server and we see that packets are sent for the machine (the ip is to external-cluster ip and MAC is for this machine's MAC) but the telnet server does not respond. netstat -an shows that telnet is listening on[::]:23 Is there are different way to get IPV6 packets destined to an address on loopback received? Is there any error reporting that would help us determine why the telnet server is not responding ? Loopback Processing Not Working Hi all. I tried replying to a similar thread,

Our workplace is increasing its security policies and we want everyone to have their computer lockout after 15 min of inactivity (going towards the screensaver). However, there are some lab computers that should not follow this rule as there are safety concerns. I understand that loopback processing within a policy is the route to go for this situation, and I have read up on it and tried to implement it. However, I have not had any success with it. Here is what I have done: - I have a screensaver policy that is filtered to 3 security groups which cover just about everyone in our active directory. However, when I log into my computer (using my AD username) the "turn off" policy is not overriding the "turn on" policy (i.e. I don't get the stars screensaver). If I change the security filtering to my AD username (rather than my computername), I get the stars screensaver. But, of course, this is not what I need to happen. From what I've browse from Microsoft and the various forums on the net, the loopback processing should be pretty straightforward. I have no idea what I'm missing here. We would like to use a loopback device on the server and use it's IP address to access it. With OSPF, this will enable us to lose a NIC and for the other to continue operating. Gotta love redunancy! Problems: 1. We cannot seem to assign a subnet mask of 255.255.255.255 to it - the minimum we can give is .252 giving is two usable IP addresses. Clearly this means that for every loopback device there is an IP address not being utilized which is inefficent. I note that our Linux servers are running with 255.255.255.255 on the loopbacks fine, not sure why Windows thinks it's not possible. 2. If you create two loopback devices, they share the same MAC addresses. We're not entirely sure how Windows might uniquely identify them at the MAC level, but clearly giving duplicates is completely broken anyway. Any ideas on these? The first is the most important, we'll be wasting a whole slew of IPs on the matter. I wonder if you can set .255 in Server edition instead? Thanks, James

both? thanks for any help Group Policy Loopback Not Applying I have a laptop that I'm trying to make an image of. I had everything setup and working with Group Policy Loopback working. I disjoined the computer from the domain, ran sysprep, took an image of the comptuer and then booted it back up. I then rejoined the computer to the domain (using the same comptuer name as before) and tried to logon as a normal user. I find that Group Policy Loopback is not applying. Using "gpresult" the computer policy is listed (for which loopback is enabled), but the user settings from that GPO are not getting applied. Is there anything that can affect Group Policy Loopback processing on the client side? I've placed another computer into the OU wherethe GPO with loopback is enabled at, and everything works as it should. for whatever reason, this one comptuer that I've run sysprep on is not working.. Thomas Loopback Connects To Tcp Port 8181 And Cpu Goes To 100% Windows 2000 web server communicates using the random local port and the loopback address that talks to TCP port 8181. Occasionally it will get stuck in this state and causes the server to go to 100% utilization, and you are unable to connect to your web server. It says it's talking using the loopback address on a random TCP port using application inetinfo.exe to talk to c:winntsystem32
inetsrvinetinfo.exe on TCP port 8181. Once I terminate this connection of 8181 everything comes back. I am also able to connect towards the 8181 port via IE web browser and submit a ctrl refresh over and over again until it drives the CPU to 100%. We upgraded to Active Directory about a month and a half ago. Roaming profiles is set for 4 users who are part of Administrators Group. Far as I know the server's Adminstrator which is referred to above is not a roaming profile. We have a Group Policy for redirecting the Desktop, My Documents and the like for 4 users inside the Administrator Group applied on the 2 groups they are in.
Curiously, when I (my user account) log onto the server in question it says it cannot create a folder called Admiistrator under my profile folder and that I will have to logon with a temporary profile that will be deleted when I log off.
Also Administrator has a folder in the profile folder F:USERS even though we did not set up a group policy redirecting folders on that user. Any ideas? Oh, and Computer Management cannot close these sessions, there is no effect. Never saw them prior to Active Directory Windows 2000 Server SP 4 all updates applied thru 8/5/05

anyone who logs onto that server get that poilcy. I have 1 Kiosk PC which we allow customers to use only for web browsing.
I'd like the kiosk PC to connect to citrix as well. But have a heavily locked down group policy applied. How can i achieve this ? I know i couldn't do it with Windows 2000 AD, have there been any enhancments to 2003 ? As if i choose replace, then the container that hte citrix server in will win out and i won't have a heavily locked down kiosk user. If i choose merge then i'll get a bit of both which still isn't as locked down as i'd like. Please let me know what i can do...
