As a Step-on tour guide, I have conducted countless bus tours throughout Niagara and Toronto.Â* These bus tours are always entertaining, educational and memorable and just a little bit of advance thinking will make sure that everyone sails rightÂ*over any bumps in the road.Â* The following is a survival checklist for day bus tours. PLAN FOR THE WEATHER- Temperature and precipitation both have minds of their own and can never be guaranteed.Â* Daily weather forecasts have always been significant planning factors for me when conducting a tour in Niagara Falls, Canada.Â* Even the mist over the Falls switches direction several times a day between the Canadian and American sides of the river, depending on true religion shop which way the wind is blowing.Â* Temperature can be just as unpredictable.Â* A bus tour in September can start off mild and sunny and turn wet and chilly overnight.Â* A good tour guide will generally be on top of the weather situation for their area and advise those on their bus trip of what to expect.Â* The front desk at the hotel will also be able to shed some light on what to expect the coming day.Â* I always like to encourage travellers to layer their clothes, so that they can shed and don them throughout the day if necessary.Â* Wearing a sweatshirt because the morning air is brisk might be regretted if the noontime sun brings a wave of sweltering humidity.Â* A sweater can be left on the bus.Â* For rain, it is a good idea to bring one of those plastic rain covers in your bus tour carry on bag.Â* They can be purchased at most dollar stores or in hotel gift shops.Â* As well, you can easily make you own by cutting out arm true religion skinny jeans and neck holes in a light weight plastic garbage bag.Â* Additionally, make sure you bring a cover to protect your camera in the event of rain.Â* GOOD FOOTWEAR- Wearing heels or brand new shoes on a bus tour can be a real ‘day wrecker’.Â* I know this, as I have committed this faux paus.Â* Many stops on a day tour include a bit of walking and for this reason it only makes sense to throw fashion to the wind and start the day out by wearing only your most comfortable ‘tried and tested’ footwear.Â* SPENDING MONEY- Most bus tours stop at numerous gift and souvenir shops.Â* As well, during free time there is usually ample opportunity to shop.Â* Some shopping venues are well geared up to accept tourist funds in any form but you may encounter a street vendor with a product you can’t resist.Â* It’s always a good idea to be prepared with both a little cash and credit, just to be on the safe side.Â* Also, during my career I am constantly surprised how many bus tour groups from the United States enter into Canada without exchanging some currency first.Â* Of course, most places will take American currency but there is no guarantee that you will get a fair rate of exchange or even exchange at all.Â* true religion store In the last few years there have also been times when the Canadian dollar is worth more and then there will be a surcharge on American currency.Â* Whenever possible, using a credit card ensures a fair rate of exchange.Â* Also, having stashed a few coins or small bills for tipping along the way is a good idea. ALWAYS KNOW THE TIME- By making sure that you have a functioning time piece that is set to the tour guide’s watch, you can save yourself a lot of embarrassment while on a bus tour.Â* There is nothing worse than having a full bus waiting for a few people who have somehow lost track of time.Â* If people are consistenlty late at each stop, this can even result in not being able to take in all the scheduled events.Â* Here’s a little ‘tour guide’ humour for you…. What’s the difference between a tourist and a hitchhiker? Answer:Â* Five minutes PREPARE FOR SPECIAL DIETS- Lunch may be on your own but dinner is often set out in advance.Â* If you are on a diet on any kind that requires a special protocol, make sure you ask your guide in advance if you will be able to find the proper foods.Â* She/he can make suggestions for lunch and if aware in advance, can even call ahead to the evening restaurant and see if there is an alternative meal selection that won’t throw you off your diet.Â* Most restaurants that are accustomed to catering to bus tours are very accommodating in this regard. Bringing a few snacks on the bus is always a good idea, as well.Â* CHARGE YOUR CAMERA- Don’t miss out on that ‘once in a lifetime Wholesale Shoes, Women's Shoes – fashion » Blog Archiv » hillbilly ... shot’.Â* Have your camera fully charged for the day or bring along extra batteries. PREPARE FORÂ*SMALL EMERGENCIES-Â*Headaches, sunburns, bug bites, diarrhea…….are just some of the unpredictable things that can occur on a bus tour.Â* Bus drivers usually have a first aid kid with various supplies in the bus but Pepto Bismol may not be one of them.Â* A pre-packed traveller emergency kit that you can stash in the pocket of a bus seat will ensure that your day is not ruined.Â*
