Tough call, but the Phillies are the team of destiny this year. (I’m still waiting til spring).
When the Phillies and Rockies open play in their division series today, it will have been nearly 14 years since Philadelphia hosted a playoff baseball game. I can say I’ve been at both of them. We had tickets to Game 5 of the 1993 World Series,Cheap Batman Hats, which the Phillies won,cheap The Hundreds Hats, 2-0, before Joe Carter did his thing back in Toronto in Game 6. The two things that stand out from Game 5 – aside from the constant playing of “Whoomp There It Is,” which somehow became the Phillies’ anthem that October – were players pivotal to the Yankees’ recent history.
No. 1: Curt Schilling, now of the Red Sox, of course, pitched a five-hit shutout.
No. 2: Kevin Stocker doubled home the Phillies’ second and final run.
So,Cheap Milwaukee Brewers Hats, why did I mention Kevin Stocker? Stocker hung around for a few more seasons before he was traded to the Devil Rays in November 1997 for a young outfielder named Bobby Abreu in one of the more lopsided one-for-one trades I can remember.
