Hats off to the American Red Cross of Summit and Portage counties and its volunteers for the huge shot of confidence it gave to the 318 persons, including me, who attended one of the three free ''U.S. Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords Honorary Save a Life Saturday'' CPR and first-aid training sessions.
Giffords, as you know, was severely wounded in the recent mass shooting in Tucson, Ariz. Open Back Dresses, which claimed the lives of six and seriously injured 14. Daniel Hernandez, who had been Giffords' intern for five days, was hailed for helping to keep her alive until paramedics arrived. Hernandez said his skills came from his Red Cross training.
Nearly 100 Red Cross chapters nationwide embraced Saturday's call-to-action training.
Mary Ellen Coneglio, director of programs/services of the Summit and Portage chapter, said Prom Dresses 2011, ''We were thrilled with the turnout and the opportunity to present these life-saving skills to so many people in one day. . . .
''I was so impressed to see whole families attending and many young people with their parents, right down on the floor together practicing on our little
[soft] ambulances. The most heartfelt was a young teenage girl with her grandmother Plicated dresses, both leaving to go out to lunch with big smiles and their bandages still on their arms. We had people register from everywhere in Summit County and also from Portage County. The same event was held in Cleveland and Canton.''
Canton had 28 participants; Columbus chocolate prom dresses, a little over 100. So the Summit/Portage turnout was one for the record books.
Fortunately for all of us Strapless dresses, the Red Cross is on the front lines in every disaster ― natural or man-made ― to give aid and comfort.
