High school students and their families are invited to check out the latest styles and fashions for prom season and to take home gowns and accessories free of charge. Adult cosmetology's Prom Fashion/Hair Show is scheduled for March 31 from 5-7 p.m. at the CCCTC auditorium. Entrance to the event is free with any donation of money, prom gowns, costume or rhinestone jewelry cocktail dresses petite, shoes or other prom attire. A Chinese auction will be held from 5-6 p.m. with the show to follow at 6 p.m. Hors d'oeuvres and refreshments will be provided by CCCTC's culinary arts program. According to Adult Cosmetology Instructor Debbie Gmerek White dresses, those attending the event will receive 20 Chinese auction tickets for their donation. A gift card for a tuxedo rental, floral shop gift cards, restaurant gift cards and other items will be auctioned off. There will be a grand prize; last year the class auctioned a flat-screen TV. Ticket holders must be present to win. "We've collected several gift cards for restaurants for the Chinese auction," said Gmerek. "It's helps a lot with the cost of their meal. "This year's auction will be a little different. We're going to separate it into girls' and guys' items Green dresses, and we'll have gift baskets to draw in the general public. ... There's something for everyone." Proceeds from additional Chinese auction ticket sales will go toward the sponsorship of Philipsburg-Osceola senior and CCCTC student Jessica Brady. Brady is raising money to attend a Distributive Education Clubs of America national competition in Orlando, Fla. She advanced to the national competition when her presentation on the Alzheimer's Association placed second at DECA's state competition in Hershey. All monetary donations and dress, shoe, jewelry and accessory donations will be given to Central Pennsylvania Community Action Inc.'s Prom Closet. Prom Closet collects the items and gives them Ball gowns, free of charge, to area students. It is offering $50 off tuxedo rental vouchers for the first time this year on a first-come, first-served basis. Prom show 2011 is themed "Cinderella," and West Branch Area High School's Kayla Yontosh will star in it this year. Yontosh and her CCCTC classmates will model prom gowns. Adult students will be available during the show to answer questions relative to hairstyles cheap grad dresses, and Gmerek hopes to have professional makeup consultants on hand as well. "We are going to provide a place for girls to try on dresses Cocktail dresses," said student Sadie Shick. "They'll have the opportunity to take one home with them that day if they find one they like." Last year's event raised $400 and brought in approximately 50 dress donations. Shick and her classmates Kayla Behnken of DuBois and Cheryl Fornwalt of Clearfield are working hard to organize this year's event, Gmerek said. The trio is contacting businesses and individuals in the Clearfield and DuBois areas to request donations for the auction. Dresses are needed, and the class is hoping it gets enough dress donations to use at the show for the girls attending the show to see. To pre-register for this year's Prom Fashion/Hair Show call 765-5308, extension 215. Businesses or individuals who wish to contribute to the event may do so by calling the same number during school hours. Prom Closet Red dresses, located at the Presbyterian Church of Clearfield, assists 12 area school districts. Its hours are Thursdays, beginning March 24, from 4-8 p.m. and Saturday, April 2 and 9, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Donations to Prom Closet are being accepted at Community Action on East Cherry Street and at Chubby's Cleaners on North Third Street. "Our main thing is to support the Prom Closet bridesmaid dresses," Gmerek said. "We're still accepting gowns to use in our show.
