Think of it: women schwooshing by in floor-length, mint-green taffeta gowns, batting their eyes lashes thick with blue mascara cheap prom dresses 2011, all underneath a teased mane of unnaturally large hair.
And they choose to look like that.
Aspinwall area women are planning a Mom Prom, a step back in time -- and perhaps a few dress sizes -- to raise money for the Aspinwall Marina project on April 30 at the Aspinwall American Legion.
The Aspinwall Marina project is a community effort to raise money to buy the marina and turn it into a public park along the Allegheny River.
The all-women soiree, which will feature a photo booth, cash bar, disc jockey, Chinese auction plus size prom dresse 2011, 50/50 raffle and other entertainment. Attendees must be at least 21.
Organizer Jennifer Willford of Aspinwall said that those planning the event didn't set out not to invite men. It just kind of happened.
"We wanted to have a night where women could let loose," she said, "We just wanted it to be a night for the girls to have fun."
Outrageously dated prom-like or bridemaid's gowns are encouraged to be worn for the event celebrating kitsch prom culture from the 1970s to 1990s.
Judges will note patrons' attire and crown a prom queen.
Willford got the idea from other Mom Proms held in Detroit.
A wife, mother of two children and a psychologist A-Line prom dresses, Willford has raised money for other charities over the years grad dresses 2011, including when she ran marathons.
"It's hard to ask for money," she said. "It's better to raise it when people have a good time."
And what a good time a Mom Prom would provide cheap short prom dresses, she said.
"We thought it would be a fun night for everyone to dress up in old bridesmaid and prom gowns and dance together 2011 prom dresses," Willford said.
Dressing for the event has become a topic of conservation at many a bus stops in the Aspinwall area.
"Some women are trading prom dresses if they don't fit into them," Willford said. And some such as Willford are visiting vintage retail shops; she snapped up an orange coral 1970s jumpsuit.
"It's very fancy," Willford said.
"My husband told me he would only let me wear it to this particular event."
Willford is asking prom patrons to send old prom photos of themselves for a slide show.
Organizers are looking for song requests early, as there is up to five decades of music to consider.
Susan Crookston, who is leading the effort to buy the marina, said, "One of the primary reasons foundations and our local government are supporting this project is because of the level of commitment from the community.
"This amazing group of women came up with a really innovative and fun idea to raise money and awareness for the project cheap grad dresses," Crookston said. "The Mom Prom is a great idea in part because it's women only -- you don't have to convince your husband cheap long prom dresses, or to hire a baby sitter to go."
