Student accommodation on the rise in Cardiff
The amount of student accommodation available in the Welsh capital has risen significantly over the last ten years, it has been revealed.
According to figures obtained under the Freedom of Information Act and cited in the South Wales Echo, the number of such dwellings has increased by 50 per cent during this time.

Responding to the findings, councillor Ed Bridges, who graduated from Cardiff University himself, said educational institutions should provide more on-campus student accommodation.
He added: "We do not have a problem with students coming to the city; it's great that we have got a world-class university in Cardiff that has brought a lot of economic and cultural benefits, but it also presents challenges in that we have got a demand for housing. "
Mr Bridges went on to suggest that as the numbers of undergraduates heading to the city rises, more thought should be put into how the quality of housing available to them can be improved.
In some cases, onsite accommodation is preferable to residences based elsewhere in the area, he claimed.
According to Cardiff University, its 27, 000 students contribute between? 150 million and? 200 million a year to the local economy.
Founded by Royal Charter in 1883, the institution currently has more than 27, 000 students and over 6, 000 members of staff.
