I fell in love with my first bean bag chair when I was fresh out of college and starting a career in New York City. Many of my college chums also migrated to New York. We were all in search of fame and fortune in the Big Apple. We all wanted glamorous dwellings. Trouble is, we didn't have a dime to our names. How does one create a chic habitat on a limited budget, or no budget at all?
One of my good friends, a writer, had a clever solution from the start. Her smart idea was revealed when she invited a group of us to her proud studio apartment in Manhattan for an early evening soiree. I'll never forget the experience. She lived on the ground floor of a brownstone on the upper east side. Her room seemed huge to me, and she furnished it with an assortment of bean bag chairs. It was fantastic! She must have had at least six B B chairs in that space, maybe more. Each one was a different color. She had them arranged in groupings. It was visually inviting and fun! Sitting in one of those puffs of color was an amazing experience. So comfortable, we all stayed until the wee hours of the morning, drinking wine, and talking. We didn't fall asleep once, but we could have.
It's been many years since that event, and now bean bag chairs are back in full regalia, more fashionable, better designed, better made than ever. Just proves that everything good comes round again.
